Montefiore dell'Aso

Lots of finds have been silicon dated between Palaeolithic and Neolithic bearing witness that in Montefiore there were human settlements since Prehistory. These finds, added to finds dating from the Iron age make Montefiore an important example of Piceno necropolis. The location was the site of destruction and massacre during the Gothic war period (535-553): the low lying structures were abandoned , gothic women deported like war booty and the elderly population and children killed. Consequently,the old roman town was abandoned and in ats place walled encampments were constructed on hillsides.

Montefiore dell’Aso is a community in the province of Ascoli Piceno and numbers 2.248 inhabitants. Thanks to a well thought out organization, Montefiore offers to tourists all the facilities and services necessary to appreciate the countryside and to spend their holidays in contact with nature and history.
